Protecting a UNESCO World Heritage Site: The Challenges of a Complex Historical and Operational Site
Designed by Luigi Vanvitelli for Charles of Bourbon and begun in 1752, the Royal Palace of Caserta is one of the largest royal residences in the world and has been a UNESCO World Heritage Site since 1997. Exhibition halls and frescoed rooms coexist with offices, storage areas, and archives, forming a complex heritage site where preservation, public access, and operational activities must be managed on an ongoing basis. The project focused on the fire detection and intrusion alarm systems serving these areas, consolidating their monitoring in the on-site operations room.
Centralize monitoring and preserve existing infrastructure
The project required the centralization of alarms, faults, and system statuses for the fire detection and intrusion detection systems. The operations center had to monitor the premises 24 hours a day and respond promptly. For the intrusion detection system, two control panels needed to be replaced while retaining the existing sensors and Cat 6 UTP cabling and ensuring stable I-BUS communication over distances of up to 600 meters.
Prime, Previdia and Hevoluto: Inim’s technologies at the heart of the project
The intrusion detection system includes a Prime60 burglar alarm control panel (Prime60 version) already installed on-site and two new burglar alarm control panels Prime (Prime240 version), installed to replace devices from another brand. This confirms that an Inim retrofit is possible even in century-old buildings. The existing sensors were retained, as was the Cat 6 UTP cabling used for I-BUS communication. To support longer runs, auxiliary power stations Isopower auxiliary power stations on the I-BUS, making it possible to reuse the existing cable even on connections up to 600 meters. Fire detection is handled by a control panel Previdia Max (Previdia216 version), equipped with an additional IFM2L. The configuration manages a total of four loops and 293 detection points. The new control panel is complemented by a pre-existing SmartLoop, with one loop and 40 points. The Hevoluto software —designed for the centralized management of building protection systems, alarms, video surveillance, and access control—brings together all Inim systems on-site, including the SmartLoop control panel, in the operations room. The platform allows staff to monitor the status of the systems in real time and manage alarms and anomalies from both the fire detection and intrusion detection systems via a single interface.

Upgrading Existing Infrastructure
Prime s and Isopower stations have made it possible to retain the existing sensors and Cat 6 UTP cabling, supporting I-BUS connections of up to 600 meters.
